Artist Statement
Power is typically associated with strength, or how stronger one individual is compared to another. However, it is not always taken for individuals. For example, the whole idea of power in numbers shows how a group can be both physically and mentally stronger than one person. Some may also say that wealth comes with power. People that are more economically stable, are able to own more and therefore thought to have more power.
Although I came up with different types of power during my brainstorming, for my image I chose the power of words. Specially in today's society, we as humans tend to forget the great impact that our words have on other people. A lot of the times, we say things that impact someone negatively without us even knowing it. The ability to filter our words is what makes us a stronger community, or creates boundaries between different groups.
