Artist Statement
Home, by definition, is the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household. Knowing this, my original idea was to take a family portrait and explain why each member is so valuable. However, I wanted to step away from the typical home, and move into something less concrete. So I decided to think of what makes a home. A home is not necessarily made by concrete objects, such as concert (all puns intended). It is rather created by the things inside it, such as loved ones, happiness, etc.
To portray this idea, I chose to capture my image outdoors. This would give the idea that a home is not necessarily created by walls, or a building. Then, to demonstrate the idea that home is family, happiness, and comfort, I wrote these three words on balloons. I chose to utilize balloons because they always remind me of a happy time in my life, or a time where I was surrounded by people that make me feel happy. So, in my opinion, I thought it would be best to capture them in my image.
