Artist Statement
After much thought, I chose to pick the prompt “Lost.” When I first began to think about it, I realized that there are many different ways in which an individual may feel lost. One can be both lost physically, and emotionally. To be lost physically, a person may just not know where they are located, or they may have arrived somewhere they are not familiar with. Being emotionally lost, on the other hand, could be caused by stress, or confusion.
In this image, I chose to depict a child that is physically lost. He looks very anxious as he holds the phone and makes a call. Immediately, the audience assumes that the little boy is calling his mother. The fact that he's calling her also draws attention to change in times. A few years back kids, when lost, would cry and ask a stranger to help them find their parents. Now, however, they are provided with technology that essentially connects them to their parents.
